Hello Best Flower Friends!
April is here…. And has been for half a month! I don’t make promises about my newsletter coming out on the first of the month, so I hope you’ll all forgive me! My oldest child turned nine at the beginning of the month and that feels insane. How is my baby, literally born yesterday in my estimation, nine years old? I get weepy looking at his baby pictures; he was and is so precious. We are each a miracle and gift to one another. I’m grateful for him! I’m grateful for you!
April is a month I just love. I get so much joy from watching spring slowly unfurl. Buds swelling, the occasional maple tree turning that fuzzy shade of red, the narcissus pop and stretch and bend their necks and open to see what a year has done to their sacred home. The mud fills the treads on our boots and the sand brought in on shoes covers our kitchen floor, despite sweeping multiple times a day. We still have the down comforter on the bed, but I do dare to leave the house without a jacket. It’s during April that Carlie Simon’s ‘Anticipation’ rings in my ears as I check the spring perennials and bulb crops for progress each day. I always wonder, “Will the plants come back? Did they make it? Can I do this again?” Of course. Of course. And of course. It is all a miracle: the germinating seed in the greenhouse, the green tips poking up through the earth, the worms waking and turning in the soil. I’m so grateful for these tiny miracles.
A HUGE thank you to anyone who made it out to Art in Bloom at the Portland Art Museum in late March! It was awesome to make and sell flowers for a very well attended and super fun event. People love flowers and that is so cool. I had very warm conversations with all sorts of folks about flowers, designs in the show, friendship, gardening, and humanity. It warmed my gray March heart!
Mother’s Day is coming! I have to ask you to please spread the word about Mother’s Day at BFF! All forms of payment are accepted in person. In addition to bouquets, we will have perennial plants, potted succulents, and some other goodies! One special goodie is a soap collaboration between BFF and Noisy Acres Farm, a beautiful soap using our own farm raised lard and anise hyssop flowers and the amazing soap making skills of Noisy Acres! I can’t wait to see you and celebrate motherhood!

April 26th/June 28th/August 23rd: 10am-1pm “DIY Wedding Floral Training Workshop” collaboration with Ferris Farm. This is designed for people wanting to DIY their own wedding/event florals, but who would like a coached, hands-on practice round before their big day.
